Mikael Nyqvist is one of Sweden’s most international actors at the moment.
He became famous in Sweden for his role in the television series “Beck” in the nineties, playing afterwards several roles in Swedish films during the 2000s, including titles like “Together”, “Earth of Angels” or the Finnish “Mother of Mine ” among others, until the international recognition reached him with the series “Millennium” based on the bestselling novels by Stieg Larsson, in which Nyqvist plays the role of the journalist Mikael Blomkvist.
The actor has not stopped making films since 2010, highlighting in his recent filmography titles like “Mission Impossible-Ghost Protocol“, in which Nyqvist plays the dangerous antagonist of Tom Cruise, “Abduction“ of Nikola Kozlow, “Disconnect“ by Stephen Schumacher, “Zero Hour” by White Vincent or or “Europa” by Sebastian Cordero.
Nyqvist began his acting career at the Dramatic Art School of Malmö in the southern Sweden working in the beginning of his career mostly in theater. His first big breakthrough in cinema was “Together” by Lucas Moodysson, a role for which the actor was nominated for a Swedish Guldbagge Award, although he didn’t receive the prize yet. Nyqvist would be awarded later on with this prestigious prize for his work on the film “Grabben i Graven Bredvid” in 2002.
Lately also a writer, Nyqvist published a novel in 2009, “När barnet lagt sig“, whose theme focuses on the search of an adopted child for his biological parents, a fact that references Nyqvist’s own life, since he was adopted at the age of one year, and decided to search for his biological parents only when he had his own son.
We expect to see this charismatic Swedish actor in many productions to come, among which, it is rumored, he will appear in the new project of Christian Camargo and the Italian-American Terror production “Suspiria“ by David Gordon Green.
