When travelling to Lapland, it is convenient to specify whether you want to travel to the Finnish, Swedish or Norwegian Lapland, as the designation of Lapland is a generic name for the northern part of these three Nordic countries.
Lapland is easy to reach by plane with the major nordic airlines such as Finnair or Scandinavian Airlines making a stopover in the nordic capitals; in Helsinki in the case of Finland, Stockholm in the case of Sweden and Oslo in the case of Norway. There is also the possibility of some direct flights to the major cities in Lapland such as Rovaniemi and Ivalo in the Finnish Lapland, the city of Kiruna in the Swedish Lapland or the cities of Tromsø and Kirkenes in the Norwegian Lapland.
FLIGHTS TO THE FINNISH LAPLAND
Despite the division in the areas of Finnish, Swedish and Norwegian Lapland, summer tourism and winter-related visits to the home of Santa Claus are found mainly in the Finnish Lapland. Finnish Lapland has a total of six airports scattered in the vast area of Lapland, including:

- Kittila Airport, the airport of the great ski resorts.

- Enontekiö Airport, the most northern airport along with Ivalo, in the heart of the land of the Sami people.
- Kuusamo Airport, located in the eastern part of Lapland, which offers breathtaking scenery for trekking.
Airlines to operate regular flights to Finnish Lapland are Finnair, Blue1, Finncomm Airlines, Air Baltic and Norwegian. As for charter flights operated during the Christmas season, there are several companies that offer direct flights to Rovaniemi, including Thomas Cook Airlines, Thomson, Jet2.com, operating from the United Kingdom, Finnair operating from several European destinations, the company Edelweiss flying to Rovaniemi from Zürich and the company Wizzair flying to Lapland from Poland, Czech Republic and Hungary.

As for Swedish Lapland the main airports are:

- Pajala Airport, located near the Finnish border
- Arvidsjaur Airport, located in the southern part of the Swedish Lapland
- Luleå Airport, the largest airport of the northern Sweden
